A couple days ago I signed up for a joke e-newsletter called Mikey's Funnies. I'm curious to see what it's like and looking at the possibility of advertising there. In today's email (there's 1 a day) I read about Military Spouse Appreciation Day. It's the first time I've heard of it, but apparently Ronald Reagan (in 1984) declared the Friday before Mother's Day as Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Whatever your thoughts about the current war in Iraq and in Afghanistan (which for Canadians hits very close to home since we've got a lot of troops there), and whatever your political views, you can't help but feel something for the spouses that watch their husbands and wives go off to war. The spouses of military folk have to be pretty strong, and I imagine they're a very tight-knit community. So kudos go out to the spouses of our military people, and tomorrow give some thought to the stress, suffering and strength of them all.
