IGotNewsForYou: Writing Contest

The IGotNewsForYou.com Funny Fake News Writing Contest!

This is our 2nd contest. The first was a smashing success. You can read all about it on our blog.

We're hoping this 2nd contest is even more successful. So what are we looking for?

Funny, satirical fake news stories between 100-150 words, written in such a way that they can be personalized.

Simple right? Well, not quite, but challenging for sure. And darn fun. And darn funny. The trick is the personalization -- when writing, put yourself in the stories (as a character). Maybe you're the main character, or maybe it's someone else you know (friend, significant other, family member). But the key is that we're writing fake news where you're the star (or anyone could be).

To get the neurons zapping and zipping, here's a few samples:

Sample 1 | Sample 2 | Sample 3 | Sample 4

When writing, put yourself in the stories (as a character). If warranted, you can include the name of a friend and/or a significant other in the stories as well.

The contest is fairly simple - send as many submissions as you like. The winner will be the person that sends the funniest story (as determined by IGotNewsForYou). That person will win the prize.

Here are some more details:

  • The contest ends May 12th, 2006.
  • You can send as many submissions as you like, up to that point. The funniest submission wins. So if you send in the funniest submission, you win the prize.
  • The prizes are all listed below.
  • We'll declare a winner on or around May 14th, 2006 and then contact the winner for his or her mailing address (assuming the prize has to be mailed and is not, for example, an online/digital gift certificate).
  • We may publish your stories even if you don't win, but we promise to let you know.
Here's a list of the prizes the winner will get:
  • Something from IGotNewsForYou.com (the last contest this was a DVD box set)
  • A 1-year FREE subscription to Blogbeat, a blog stats/tracking tool.
  • 2 satire books courtesy of Mark Rayner, including Amadeus Net and The Meanderings of the Emily Chesley Reading Circle.
  • A personalized word cloud t-shirt from Snapshirts.
  • Jim Estill's Time Leadership CD.
  • More coming!
For reference sake, the 1st contest winner received the Seinfeld, Season 6 (1990) DVD box set (value: approximately $40).

All submissions should be sent to Mike Yoskovitz at admin@igotnewsforyou.com.

Good luck!
